Traffic Woes: SB Lane of Airline Drive to Be Closed Beginning Monday
It's probably a toss up among all of us who live or work here in Shreveport and Bossier City. The roads we like to travel the least includes Youree Drive in Shreveport and Airline Drive in Bossier City. Both are essentially driving nightmares. There are just too many people trying to squeeze into too small of areas, but for those who live or work in those areas, it's a nightmare they have to live through each and every day.
Making the issue even worse are those periods when there is an accident or any type of construction. It becomes almost unbearable. Well, that unbearable period is set to begin again on Airline Drive in Bossier City.
We learn from bossierpress.com that work that was originally scheduled to begin on southbound Airline Drive near Murphy Street on Wednesday, November 11, has been rescheduled to begin this coming Monday, November 16 at 9:00 am, and will last for thirty days.
Oh yeah. During the height of all our Christmas shopping which inevitably will have us on Airline Drive, will now involve the ever-hated barrel race. It just couldn't have happened at a worse time.
According to the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, during this thirty day period, the contractor will make repairs to Bossier City's underground facilities and to the roadway itself. They also note that the work will be done "Weather Permitting" so I'm assuming that if we go through another of 2020's weird wet weather patterns, this time period could be extended. Can you feel the joy I'm experiencing while I type?
In the event you're not familiar with the area, but you know you'll be traveling this way in the next 30 days, this map shows that it's not terribly far from Airline's intersection with Highway 71 (Barksdale Boulevard).
So if you need to spend the next couple days mapping an alternate route, you might just want to do it.
