Early Thursday morning, reports started coming in about the start of the construction of the box to hide the Confederate monument at Caddo Courthouse. Weeks ago, a ruling to build the box passed to protect the monument until it can be moved.

The fight over the monument has been ongoing for a while now. Motions to remove the giant statue have been happening as far back as 30 years ago. This year many protests and demonstrations have taken place. Protesters, and counter-protesters showed up to the courthouse earlier this month, and many were armed. The protests became heated, and some had to be cancelled for the safety of protesters and citizens.

The Caddo Commission and the owners of the statue, The Daughters of the Confederacy, came to an agreement to move the monument last week, but several issues have already come up about moving the statue including the use of public money to reconstruct it at the new location.

The box is being constructed, and they will hang an American, and Louisiana state flag off of it. The construction of the box is costing taxpayers around 20,000 dollars. The build was originally delayed in order to make sure it would be up to code, and safe for people to be around without getting hurt. The construction should be complete by the weekend, and will remain, until another agreement can be reached about safely moving the monument to a new location.
