Caddo Sheriff’s Office Announces CPSO Auxiliary Deputy Classes
Sheriff Steve Prator announced today that applications for the Caddo Sheriff’s Office Auxiliary Deputy Program are now available until June 20.
Auxiliary deputies supplement full-time Caddo sheriff’s deputies by volunteering their services to the Sheriff’s Office in a non-enforcement capacity. Auxiliary deputies may serve as chaplains. They also assist with traffic control, road closures during major weather events, funeral escorts, community programs, events by nonprofit organizations within the community, and perform administrative tasks within the sheriff’s office.
Those who sign up must attend an eight-week training course on Mondays and Thursdays, 6 to 10 p.m. at Sheriff’s Safety Town located at 8910 Jewella Avenue in Shreveport starting on July 11. The course includes first aid, CPR, escort procedures, vehicle driving courses, a tour of the Caddo Correctional Center, crime scene identification, radio procedures and more. Graduates are required to complete 72 hours of classroom instruction and 40 hours on patrol with a full-time deputy.
Applicants must be at least 21 years old, have no criminal history, and possess a valid driver’s license.
Those who wish to apply can call Sgt. John Hay at (318) 681-1121 or Dep. Pamela Lamay at (318) 681-1113.
