Shreveport/Bossier City is gearing up for the return of the Miss USA/Miss Teen USA pageants and today you can get a look at the contestants as the roll through downtown!

The Miss USA pageant will be televised live nationwide from George's Pond at Hirsch Coliseum on Fox Monday, May 21st at 7pm. The event will be hosted by husband and wife team Nick and Vanessa Lachey. It was 20 years ago, in 1998, that Shawnae Jebbia from Massachusetts was crowned Miss USA right here in Shreveport/Bossier.

Festivities welcoming the pageants to town kick off today with a Mardi Gras style parade rolling at noon which will result in streets closing at 10:30am. Please reference the following from the Shreveport Police Department:

The Miss USA Parade is set to roll on Monday May 14, 2018 at 12:00 pm, and the Shreveport Police Department would like to take this opportunity to share the parade route, street closures, and alternate travel routes through and around downtown Shreveport with our citizens and guests.

The parking meters on both sides of Texas Avenue from Common Street to Market Street and from Market Street back to Milam Street will be green bagged; the bags will be put in place Sunday evening. Please do not park at or near a meter with a green bag, you will be subject to tow.

All traffic into the parade route will be stopped at 10:30 am.

The parade will stage on Milam Street then take the following route: Milam Street to Common Street, Common Street to Texas Avenue, Texas Avenue to Market Street, Market Street to Milam Street and will end at the staging area.

Safety Tips:

  • Do not leave children unattended! Make plans to meet up at a particular location in case children become separated from guardians during the parade.

  • Do not fight or struggle over beads or gifts thrown from the floats.

  • Keep a safe distance from the floats.

  • Please secure your vehicles and leave all valuables at home or stored out of sight.

  • Do not take purses or wallets to parades. Keep money and cards in your front pants pockets.

  • Obey all traffic signs and directions from officers.

  • No ATV’s, Golf Carts, dirt bikes or other motorized recreational vehicles are allowed on the roadway.
