National Bikini Day [PHOTOS]

On July 5, 1946, Louis Reard, a French automobile engineer, turned his attention to a chasis of another kind - and debuted a creation that would forever change the fashion industry. Reard "invented" the two-piece swim suit for women. He had a difficult time finding a professional model to model his skin-baring suit, so he hired a...shall we say, stripper...to model it. The rest, as they say, is history.

Although not an official national holiday, June 5th is unofficially National Bikini Day!
