North America Wins Bid to Host 2026 World Cup

North America has won a bid to host the FIFA World Cup in 2026. The United States, Canada and Mexico beat out Morocco for the right to host the event. The event will generate HUGE amounts of money: The 'United' World Cup is expected to generate 14 billion dollars in revenue and make an 11 billion dollar profit for FIFA.

There will be 60 matches spread across 17 different locations in the three countries. Ten of the 17 locations will be held in the United States. Some of the finalists for host cities in the US include Dallas, Houston, Nashville, Baltimore and Washington DC. The final will be held at the 84,953-capacity MetLife Stadium, which is home to NFL's  New York Giants and the New York Jets.

The US Soccer organization issued this statement after their bid was chosen by FIFA:

Hosting the 2026 Fifa World Cup is a rare and important moment to demonstrate that we are all truly united through sport.

We are humbled by the trust our colleagues in the FIFA family have put in our bid, strengthened by the unity between our three countries and the Concacaf region and excited by the opportunity we have to put football on a new and sustainable path for generations to come.

This is the fifth time Morocco has been listed as a World Cup host finalist but lost their bid.
