The Texas Street Bridge or US 80 over the Red River connecting Caddo and Bossier Parishes is the last resort for some people trying to navigate around the ever happening traffic accidents on I-20. However, for some it's their daily gateway into downtown Shreveport or to do a little shopping at the Boardwalk or Bass Pro Shops in Bossier City.

That little task will become a little harder next Wednesday, July 8, as the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development will reduce travel in both directions of the bridge to one lane each way.

For those of us who live here, this won't be our first rodeo. We've been here and done this before. The tricky part comes with those who are just visiting the area. Expect someone from out of town to get totally turned around and cause a little grief on either side of the river.

LADOTD will be doing routine bridge inspections and they expect the lane closures to take place from 9:00 am until 3:00 pm. At least they won't be trying to do this during the high traffic times of the morning or afternoon commutes.

The Department of Transportation and Development also advise that:

These lane closures will allow vehicles 10 feet wide or smaller to pass through the bridge inspection zone. Larger vehicles must detour using LA 1, I-20 and LA 3.

Area residents should exercise caution when driving, walking, or biking near an active construction zone.

This work will be performed WEATHER PERMITTING.
