The Caddo Sheriff Reminds Those in Pickup Trucks to Buckle Seat Belts
The results from the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission are in and they don't look good for pickup truck drivers in Louisiana. The findings suggest that pickups are twice as likely to roll over in vehicle accidents and the passengers in these trucks are less likely to be wearing their seat belts. Certainly not a good combination.
My oldest son is a firefighter/EMT and he's witnessed several occasions where a pickup truck occupant was ejected due to not wearing their seat belt and he's said that it nearly always comes with the most severe of consequences.
So, it's with the results of the survey in mind, the Caddo Sheriff’s Office will participate in a statewide seatbelt enforcement campaign aimed at educating pickup drivers and their occupants about the importance of buckling up.
The campaign will begin this Saturday, April 17 and run for a full week ending on Saturday, April 24 and is paid for with a grant from the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission.
According to the Caddo Parish Sheriff's Department, the goal of the campaign is to reduce injuries and unrestrained fatalities on our roadways.
During the campaign, Caddo deputies will participate in high-visibility enforcement to bring awareness to the importance of seatbelt usage and laws. Deputies will join other law enforcement officers across the state who are looking for unrestrained drivers and occupants, specifically those in pickups.
Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator says, “The best way to protect yourself in a crash is to wear a seat belt.” “This simple reminder could be the one that saves your life.”
