In case you haven't noticed, Sunday is Easter Sunday. It's also 4/20, but we'll get to that another time. Easter is one of those Holidays that I just can't exactly wrap my mind around. I mean, the whole reason Easter exists is to celebrate the death and resurrection of Christ, yet we celebrate by telling our kids an overgrown bunny left them chocolate eggs...WTF?!?

Now, I'm not an overly religious person by any means, but I just don't get the relationship between a 6 foot bunny and the resurrection of Jesus. My mind can't make that big of a leap. And from what I remember, the Bible never once mentions chocolates or egg laying bunnies.  So I did a little investigative research.

According to Discovery.com, the whole thing came about in pre-Christian Germany:

The origin of the celebration — and the origin of the Easter Bunny — can be traced back to 13th-century, pre-Christian Germany, when people worshiped several gods and goddesses. The Teutonic deity Eostra was the goddess of spring and fertility, and feasts were held in her honor on the Vernal Equinox. Her symbol was the rabbit because of the animal’s high reproduction rate.

Spring also symbolized new life and rebirth; eggs were an ancient symbol of fertility. According to History.com, Easter eggs represent Jesus' resurrection. However, this association came much later when Roman Catholicism became the dominant religion in Germany in the 15th century and merged with already ingrained pagan beliefs.

The first Easter Bunny legend was documented in the 1500s. By 1680, the first story about a rabbit laying eggs and hiding them in a garden was published. These legends were brought to the United States in the 1700s, when German immigrants settled in Pennsylvania Dutch country, according to the Center for Children's Literature and Culture.

So, in short, it's all BS and makes no sense. Which brings me to a bit Bill Hicks use to do. Why not a goldfish dropping Lincoln Logs in your sock drawer? I mean, as long as were making stuff up, why not go Hog Wild?
