Retail giant Target has announced that they will be dramatically expanding some aspects of their employee benefits package in a bid to attract new workers.  According to easttexasmatters.com, the big bulls-eye will be adding 20 days of backup child care or elder care, up to four weeks paid time off annually to care for a newborn or sick family member, and six to eight weeks of paid maternity leave to their workers benefits packages starting this fall.  According to the report, employees will be also be able to take their children to an in-network day care center for $20 a day - according to care.com, that's less than half of the national daily average of $42.20.

With current unemployment numbers (3.6%) at their lowest since 1969 - stores like Target and Walmart have had to reevaluate how they compensate their staff.  Earlier this week the latter announced that they would be offering a some extremely low cost college courses ($1 per day) as well help with paying for books and fees in an effort to recruit and retain more workers in and coming out of high school.
