James South is getting ready for a huge party.  His son Jim has a three-day celebration planned that involves everything his dad loves: Golf, plenty of chicken fried steak and catfish, and lots of time with his family.  It may sound excessive, but you've got to go big when your biggest hero turns 100.

The reason I'm writing this, is that James should be your hero, too.  Not only will this amazing husband, father, and grandfather be celebrating a century on Earth on October 7th - he was part of the fighting force that defeated the Nazi regime in WW II.  James hit the sand of a European beach a mere 7 days after the D-Day invasion, and helped the U.S. Army grind down Hitler's forces across the Atlantic.

This tough as nails Vet lived on his own property in Watauga, Texas until he was 98.  Now he resides in a nursing home.  Even though he gets frequent visits from his son, I bet he still feels lonely.  The nursing home staff (and I, for that matter) think that this in unacceptable.  The nurses and administration at Brookdale Senior Living posted a picture of James holding a sign, asking for birthday cards.  The goal is to get him 100 cards for 100 years, and completely cover a wall.  I think we can do much better than that.

If you'd like to send James a card to help him celebrate his years and his service, send it to this address:

James South
5800 North Park Drive
Watauga, TX 76148

Let's cover the entire nursing home with cards.
