Showtime Boxing Coming to Shreveport
One of Showtime's most viewed and well regarded boxing shows is coming to Shreveport! The Shreveport-Bossier Sports Commission announced on Tuesday that ShoBox's show Next Generation will be filming an episode in town.
Showtime will convert the Stageworks building into a full fledged boxing club for the event. The event will take place and be filmed January 11th. For those of you that don't follow or have the ShoBox network, Next Gen is "is boxing's premier proving ground for top prospects determined to fight for a world title, matching young talent competitively against their toughest opponents to date. More than 75 ShoBox fighters have become world champions."
The show is broadcasted and streamed world wide and is regarded in the boxing community as one of the premier showcases for future superstars in the sport and generally brings in an audience of millions.
According to the press release, here is who is scheduled to appear:
Fast and flashy blue-chip lightweight prospect Devin Haney 21-0 from Las Vegas will fight Xolisani Ndongeni 25-0 from Ducan Village, South Africa on Jan 11 at the Stageworks of Louisiana in Shreveport-Bossier Louisiana. The scheduled 10-round fight will headline a tripleheader on "ShoBox: The New Generation" (Showtime, 10 p.m. ET/PT), the network has announced. Haney (13 KOs), 20, of Las Vegas, whose own Devin Haney Promotions will promote its second card, is coming off an impressive win of Juan Carlos Burgos on "ShoBox" on Sept 28 in San Diego. Now Haney, a seven-time national junior amateur champion who turned professional in Mexico because he was too young to get a boxing license in the United States, will bring a great headliner to Shreveport-Bossier City. There will be two other televised fights and local promoter Amber Bishop, Bishop Promotions will add five more local and regional matchups to the largest boxing event ever showcased in Shreveport-Bossier City. Local fighters, Kendrick Williams, Ariel Juarez and Blake Franklin on the card. Kendrick Williams from Shreveport, with Karate Mafia, will be making his pro boxing debut. Ariel Juarez from Longview, TX with Team 515 is 1-0 and local boxing star Blake Franklin from Shreveport with Paxton’s Boxing Gym. Showtime boxing was last in the Shreveport-Bossier area in the mid-1990’s and both fights have taken place at the Stageworks of Louisiana (former Shreveport Expo Hall).
